Looking to get a wedge for my 10" lx200 SMTGPS. I'm wondering if it will work well with the field tri-pod or should I look to builg/get a pier. Looking for the least vibration possible. Thanks

Least vibration would point you to a well configured pier. By that, i mean a pier with adequate diameter (in this case i would suggest 1' dia), and a good strong, deep, wide base.
The fact that you are considering a pier, suggests that this is going to be a "fixed" location.

If you will be moving it around at all, look for a Meade Giant Field tripod. Weighs about 50 lb, has 4" legs, and is *really* solid. I used my 14" on a Superwedge on this tripod for a couple of years. Next best thing to a pier!
But if you have a permanent place, do a 12" concrete pier.

Then I *really* advise the big Meade tripod. (Not the one that comes standard with the 10" SCT!) A heavy-duty, precision wedge is a good idea, too. Don't get a Superwedge; they work great, as long as you don't have to adjust them; but Mitty or Milburn make state of the art, fine-adjustable wedges.
I've never tried a portable pier; but it seems like it wouldn't be as stable as a tripod. And with a tripod, you can also use a scope buggy!
And don't forget the vibration suppression pads for the tripod legs. Those even worked on my 14" w/wedge and all - right about 250lb of weight, and I could still tell the difference with the pads! (That much weight ended up mushing them down pretty good, though.)
