Meade 10" LX200 or Celestron C9 1/4-SGT?
      #5609563 - 01/07/13 01:23 AM

I currently have the opportunity to get either of these scopes (with the stock mounts) at about the same price, and am wondering which scope the community would recommend and why? I'll mostly observe with the scope, but would love to do a little more photography with it as well.

Thanks from an amateur who has loved his first scope (Celestron NexStar 4SE).

Suggest you repost this up in the cats and casses forum, where there would be more owners of these scopes.

Mike if he does what you suggest he will get dinged with a double post. The way to do it is send a mod alert.

What mount on the 9.25 or are both OTA's,
If the 10 is an LX200 is it the Classic? those have electrical issues due to the age, they are also about
70 lbs.
I have owned 4 of them some were terrific optically but one was F6.3 and not that great.
The 9.25 have a pretty good reputation and lbs lighter.
if that helps

orion61 - the mount for the Celestron is the CG-5GT. The LX200 is the GPS version, so I assume that's a newer one?

Then the Meade is probably a better setup. The 9.25 is marginal on the CG-5. The LX200 2120 is heavy, about 55# IIRC. So if you need portability that may be an issue. Then I'd go with the C9.25 on a Sirius or CGEM.

The 9.25 is not "marginal" on the CG5. Works just fine. Only fly in the ointment? Celestron is in the process of replacing the CG5 with the VX, so if you want a CG5, get one now.

Are you talking about the LX200 or the 2120? (Two different models.)
