Heads up !! Just surfing the usual retail sites - OPT, High Point Scientific, Woodland Hills, Astronomics etc. The ES sale on eyepieces has been extended to June 30, 2013. The sale also applies to telescopes, mounts, etc.

Yeah, I saw that too. I wonder at what point it's no longer a sale and simply their final price. I feel like I'm shopping for a mattress.
The 82 degree are very nice eyepieces none the less.

Love their equipment....they gotta do something about all these backorders though...Been waiting since MAY. Shouldn't take that long to turn around an eyepiece. Maybe consider bringing some of the mfg back here?????

I got an email from ES regarding the 24mm 68*:
" Greg, Unfortunately, it will be at least 60-90 days before we get some more in. I really wish we had them sooner, but they've been so popular that demand has been hard to keep up with. As soon as they come in, they will go through QC and be shipped to vendors within the week they arrive.

That's interesting. Very similar response I received to the same question 30 days ago. Makes one start to wonder at what point the waiting begins to make the price of a Televue seem like a better option???

You mean that ES eyepieces have caps with labels warning of their removal being punishable by law?

Let's hope we don't start comparing them to buying a rug (those companies are in a continual state of going out of business)

Now this is good news! I have a relative heading across the big pond in March and I have a hole in my case where the Terminagler used to live. I think the 30mm 82° could slip in there quite nicely

Thats good to hear... I've been recently considering the 30mm ES82 as a better option in my Z12 Dob than the 40mm Meade 5000 SWA that I am currently using. It gives me a little time to clear it with the CFO.

That point is when you want to actually begin observing.

This is a curious company. They cannot fill the orders they already have so they extend a sale to pump up demand?

I have the 30mm 82 degree last fall and yesterday the 24mm 82 degree arrived at $179.99 with their promo code. I'm done with ES now.

It is an interesting situation. Last year at one point the previous $99.95 sale ended and they raised the prices to $119.95 for the shorter FL ES82's. That price is still less than the Meade UWA eyepieces. It wasn't too long before they brought the sale prices back - I think around NEAF time - and they've been back ever since and now extended so that the sale will have been for over a year.
At this point I think most people think of the "sale" price as the regular price. If it is profitable for them to extend the "sale" indefinitely then they will do it. I don't know how bad the supply issue really is. I've followed the "in stock" "out of stock" status of the ES eyepieces throughout the sale the last 6 months and other than the 24mm ES68 every eyepiece has come into stock at some point at some vendors. The next hardest to find seems to be the 4.7mm ES82.
I'm not sure why there is such a long delay on the 24mm ES68. I'm sure BillP's excellent review has helped to generate a lot of the demand. It is also anybody's guess as to how many people have them on backorder. I've considered getting one but I'm waiting until they appear "in stock".

That happens when $330 has the same value as $99. YMMV, for some of us, it's never.

These are the ES EPs we got, first the 24mm 68 as soon as we saw BillP's write-up, then the 4.7mm 82 immediately thereafterafter and based on the strength of the 24. Neither have disappointed. To the contrary...and word is the 4.7mm began shipping again 2 or 3 weeks ago, from High Point Scientific at least.
