Well, after one false start two years ago, I've finally come into possession of a vintage Q worth keeping, a 1974 with BB and R1. It is my first personally owned instrument, although I grew up around them (Dad is on his 5th). From what I see, its about as near mint as you can get for a non-refurbished Q without using a time machine.

Stunning scope Keith. And a complete set of Brandons, very nice. I just love that mystic purple anodizing of these older Q's

Thanks Sir. It was bought sight unseen but with a solid recommendation from a trusted friend. It does not disappoint.

Very nice... Here is my "new" 1974 standard. The leather case is like new with no scratches, and the powercord had never been unwound....

Beautiful scope. What are forum opinions whether to keep the solar filter and eyepieces in plastic bags, or not? I keep the ep capped, but don't have the solar filter in any enclosure. Just asking what others think. Thanks.

I would think the plastic would prevent accumulation of dust as well as lessen the the possibility of scratches.

Nice scope. I bet for every Questar that gets used regularly, there are 20 that never get used.

Hi Joe,
I purchased the Questar wood case for my full aperture solar filter. It doesn't fit in the leather carry case but it does a good job of protecting the aluminized surfaces from sleeks and scratches. It is really solid and well constructed as you would expect. Cconsidering the cost of the filter a little extra for the case is a good insurance policy in my opinion.

Most Questars will get used, no scope is easier on the observer
And at a certain moment in time, they reach heirloom status. If the heirs don't use it, they tend to come up for sale.
