At that price I'd definitely jump on it ... it would be a good investment even if you plan to use AC power in the future. Your mount should have come with the required DC power cable.

And don't forget to check the glove box and other usual spots for any CT money.

I thought about buying this mount because of its light weight, but, it does not have a Losmandy width saddle option. I would have to buy and change out the dovetails on both my SCTs and three refractors.

You can buy Losmandy to Vixen adapters.

You could just get an ADM "V2D" adaptor:

Most mounts in this class only have a Vixen-style saddle.

ok all last SCT I owned was back in 1980 when
I worked at celestron as optical assembler!
so not sure about these mounts i want the 8"SCT
for visual and to do little imaging!
plus small scope auto guider and dslr setup on
this mount-(I use to do astro imaging with 35mm slr camera
and off axis guider)
and want know how the stability of this mount is with this setup!

Mike,

The adapters mentioned will certainly solve your problem. If you are interested in a really slick solution I'd give Anthony at ADM a call and find out where he is on the replacement saddle for the VX (he was waiting for a VX so he could build from an actual unit). An ADM replacement saddle that uses the Losmandy D plate size (or better yet his dual saddle that's D and V compatible) would be a really nice option and not much more expensive than just an adapter.

Thanks Mark. I plan to buy a VX as soon as I sell my G11G2 which is to heavy for me to lug around. The largest scope I have is a C9.25HD.

I haven't taken many astro pics with my Canon 1100D but I have tried one attached to a Sky Prodigy with no finder. Of course that is alt-az and trailing starts to happen. Celestron's Star Sense due in April might help get you alignment without an OTA. ADM Accessories does Vixen bars and camera attachments - fixed or ball mount. The Sky Prodigy is amazing with limited horizon and glare so bad you cannot visually see alignment stars (you use the manual assist alignment if you don't have 360 degree horizon). I am so impressed with this tech I have pre-ordered the Star Sense accessory.

That confused me when I first tried the CG5-GT. But the arrow buttons are not "overloaded" like in most modern user interfaces, so the scroll buttons are a separate way to navigate menus. Early days though I kept moving the scope when navigating menus. One quickly gets used to it. I still have trouble with the overloading of buttons on my Canon DSLR despite having the "for Dummies" book for it.

In the image I posted I guided with my 80ED and a SSAG and imaged with an AT6RC at native FL so it wasn't very flat but in the center it was perfectly flat so with this mount controlled with thesky6... it wasnt hard to get it centered. I can easily get 5 minute exposures on this mount if the wind cooperates. I really need to get my skill up to date on processing because I take 30+ subs and 30 darks and my images are still riddled with noise... quite disappointing. Any hints guys? THanks for all the compliments

The CG5 doesn't have a ball bearing DEC axis. I'm assuming the VX does not either? Does the CGEM have ball bearings in both axis?

The CGEM has three ball bearings and one taper bearing on each axis. Two of the ball bearings support the ring gear on the shaft and the other ball bearing and the taper bearing support the shaft in the housing.

What is the exposure time per sub? What ISO are you using? Nikon cameras generally perform better at low ISO, so stacking low ISO subs, with longer exposure per sub should give better results, although I didn't actually see any problems in your image, above.

Ended up getting a 20Ah one for $65 at Canadian Tire last night. Nice small light unit with USB charging and a bright LED light. Just have to find a way to make the light red.
