Yes I know, and it won't work.
This is about the third time this has been asked in this thread.

Y'all's thoughts on the good, old CG5's replacement?
The ergonomics look nice. Just don't like improvements being made for imagers that visual only folks are gonna have to pay extra for. Not a huge price increase, but still....

Imagers only? Better tracking and steadiness will be more than welcomed by visual obsevers as well.

Currently $300 price difference between Hypertuned CG-5 here on CN vs new VX mount. Is the VX worth the added cost for imaging 80mm refractor? I ask a little late, as I just bought the CG-5, but appreciate views and comments.

Hi guys , just got my new AVX mount 3 days ago, clouds of course, but then its been cloudy here in Canada Since Nov ,LOL
my only concern wil be setting up the AVX in -18C to -21C, in the house right now , with a small weight the RA does not free fall that EZ, which may be bad and good...bad for balancing, good for keeping the RA smooth as i track ..
other then that the Quad encoders on the DEC/RA should be very interesting.as the testing continues . i will continue updating here, being an owner of both the CG5GT( loved it , miss it) and the CGEM , no tears here , but good after DEC motor swap.
i feel confident Celestron has another GEM ( no pun intended) here !!!
see yea'll soon.
BTW Love the hand controller , the (#6 and #9 scroll) now have a slant button to ezaly identify them by feel in the dark..(way to go Cel...)

you might not like the way celestron installed the Latitude knob, its in the right place of course , but you aint gonna bring your eye to the finder unless you poke your cheek into it like i did, force of habbit LOL, Hence not a biggy if you love ASPA...just needed to show and tell..

I don't see the mount you are talking about, but the answer is really "it depends." The VX seems to be doing well, but it is still largely untested. The CG-5 is a know quantity and, depending on how it was HyperTuned, could be a very good buy. There are really too many variables to answer definitively on this one I think.

The VX is 799. You're saying a new CG5 is 499? Haven't seen that.

I am a visual only observer and I love the new mount. I don't suppose that I will ever use PEC, granted. It is a great mount for my Megrez 110 and better than the ASGT for the C6R that came with that older mount. Whether the improvements justify the price is always a judgement call. I think that most visual observers will say that they do.

He said it was "HyperTuned" so I assume that he was referring to a used mount.

It's on blowout at my local shop, Woodland Hills Telescope and Darkroom. Per my friend over there (who is also my drug er ah astronomy kit dealer ) they have 65 in inventory and Celestron isn't making anymore. He said something about it being just a bit above $500 for a new one so that is within spitting distance...

Well comparing the price of a new VX to that of a possibly used, possibly messed with CG5--just because it says "hypertuned" don't assume Ed or Doc Clay did it--is not very...uh..."realistic."
