M 42 screen grab of a 45 second exposure New Year's Day. Taken with Mallincam VSS+, Lumicon Deep Sky filter, and a C6 @ F3.3. Moon was well up. The C6 is becoming my new favorite scope to use as it is easy to set up and has a wide field when used @ F3.3.

Wide Field? The C6 @ f/3.3 is 500mm. I assume this has been cropped quite a bit. This doesnt look like a 500mm wide field shot but I dont know anything about a Mallincam either. This is my first visit to this forum because I thought I might check into one.

Hi: the chip in a Mallincam is quite small at 7.4 x 4.95 mm and is the so called half inch sized sensor. To capture many deep sky objects a focal reducer is required to give you enough field. The image is uncropped and as it appears onscreen live. At F 10 all I would get would be the Trapezium area. Hope this answers your question and welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys. I decided I will just stick with my DSLR. Just sent my 1100D to Gary Honis for a Baader UV/IR mod. Cant wait to get it back! Have fun!
