Besides the obvious; I've looked thru the forums and classifieds today and have not had the urge to buy anything....but the day ain't over yet.....there's still hope??????

Such things happen... There comes a time when you think:

"That's pretty neat, I would like to have one of those."

Then you remember... "I had one of those, I didn't like it."

A somewhat later step...

"Gee, that's pretty neat, I would like to have one of those."

Then you remember, "Oh wait, I do have one of those... I ought to find it." Or maybe... "Now who did I loan that to?"

Oh that totally happened to me with photography and camera gear. And backpacking gear. And antique watches. I'm consciously trying to tread the other path with astronomy, so as to lower my stuff owned:stuff used ratio.

Sooner or later you reach a point where your happy with what you have, and then you zone in on that one or two odds and ends you still need, everything is non interesting

Try this: We all have other hobbies..Right? So migrate your thoughts into some other "hobby space" for a half day.. Then come back to the astronomy world. You'll see or think of something you need...

There was once an item I thought I needed. I went to eBay to do a little research to see how much I would need to spend for it. After a while I found the item and opened up the info on the previous sale. The price was in the ball park of what I thought it should be so I looked for more details on the sale. The shipping cost listed was to my state AND city. OMG, I was the buyer! A couple of years earlier I bought and modified the part for my use. It was a seasonal item and because of the weather I hadn't been able to actually use it yet but there it was in my basement, bought, modified and ready for use. Let's just call it a senior moment.

Someone already did that to me earlier this year. Luckily, I checked my bank account online the day of the purchase and the bank gave me my money back. Bank asked me if I lost the card, told them no, I had it in my hand. It was pretty obvious I wasn't in Disneyland that day. A couple of days later, they replaced my money.

But hey, if you'll pay the credit card bill too........

I do this with tools all the time.
