Some of the push buttons on my 10-year old Nexstar 11 hand control must be pressed rather hard to get them to respond. Should I open the hand control and use contact cleaner? What remedy would you recommend to help fix this, short of a new hand control?

In what conditions does the controller act up? Because last night my controller wouldnt slew the scope at all it was so damn cold. But if it does it wherever whenever then yea somethings wrong. 10 years you say? Yea.. open it up and do what you can. All else fails then I'd get a new one.

Be careful with 'contact' cleaner. I have had some that at the membranes on some switches in other devices, so you may want to be careful. Also, this sounds like the problems that the Autostar folks have and there is a contact restorer kit available that may help restore it if an alcohol cleaning doesn't work or last. Brian
