Ricky, what is it you don't like about iCap in particular? I've had a little frustration that it has features that don't apply to the camera (NI5) and there is little support, but would like to compare notes.

Richard, I've had iCap freeze up pretty often or drop connection to the camera. Seems to happen when I make several changes (gain, exposure) in succession although that might be coming from the camera driver??
I also noticed that there are features that don't seem to go with the camera.
With my SPC900 I used wxAstro and it worked better than the software that came with the webcam. So I thought I'd try some alternatives to see if they worked better. I tried wxAstro with the NexIamge 5 and it doesn't seem to work together at all.
I installed SharpCap last night, fired it up with the camer and it seems to recognize the NexImage 5 just fine. I haven't had a chance to image with it yet as skies here are cloudy.
Have tried SharpCap or anything else? Also, how have you fared with iCap?

Hey Ricky,
I've been okay with iCap, haven't had many crashes. I'm running it off of an old Toshiba laptop using XP. It doesn't have all the great custom features of, say, Backyard EOS, but it seems to do the job. I hope there are upgrades in the offing.
I haven't found what I consider enough information on the camera itself. Celestron has provided surprisingly little support, which is unfortunate--I think the camera is a significant upgrade from the original Neximage, but not an advanced camera like the Fleas and other new cameras. Still, it was within my price range and enough to challenge and satisfy me in the short term.

I've used HandiAvi http://www.azcendant.com/ with the NexImage 5 on Windows XP but you don't get all of the options and formats. Still, HandiAvi is good for time lapse.
