I am in the midst of solar hibernation, waiting for the sun to rise up again from behind the rooftops in my backyard and enjoying the vacation... sort of. I gave a TEDx talk in Buffalo last fall - the video was finally uploaded to YouTube last week. Apologies to those of you who are friends on Facebook and might have seen this already, but I thought some might enjoy seeing it. As you said, looking at Saturn was a mistake. After seeing it through a relatively cheap scope, I was hooked. I also enjoy the DIY aspect of AP and have modified my own webcams and equipment to suit my needs. This weekend, I Set up an old 60mm scope to do projection video for solar work. It never ceases to amaze me how much detail and beauty can be drawn out of seemingly poor video with a couple of pieces of software and a little knowledge. Lucky Astronomy indeed! Originally from Lockport and now living near Cherry Springs State Park in PA, it's nice to see a fellow WNYer doing so well in AP. Thanks for the video! Tuawcxs, the TEDx talks are presented to an audience of 100. It is a day long event with some breaks and opportunities for small group discussion, but there is no question/answer component to the talks, which are constrained to a maximum of 18 minutes. My sense was that the audience was into it. Your knowledge of the subject matter was clear but I think that the reason your audience was so "into" your talk was that your presentation skills are exceptional. Nice images for sure, but the way you drew the audience in with your comfort in front of them was, in my opinion, at least 60% responsible for your obvious success.
