Thank you for your compliment on my artwork! I have to get a better look at your gallery, too.
Generally I use Photoshop (actually Photoshop Elements - 95% of the functionality I desire for a fraction of the price) for most of the work, while I use Terragen for the planetary terrain, such as in the 47 Ursa Major art.
Supposedly, at some point there will be a professional version of Terragen that will have all sort of additional features. The current version is free and is very good (probably the best piece of freeware I've ever seen), but the pro version will include all sorts of increased capability. Well worth the money for it, I bet, though I don't know its price or when it will be out.

I played with Terragen a bit...it is a very good program for at least introducing one to the basics of 3D art..the amazing thing about Terragen is just how roboust it's rendering engine is! If they came out with a version to compete with Vue d'Sprite, or even Bryce...it would be incredible little program! Personally, I think Bryce is the best bang for the buck 3-D program on the market...(think I will start a thread over in "Off Topics" on this)

Vue d'Sprite? I have not heard of that one.
Terragen is incredible for terrain rendering, but that (and cloudscapes) is its single function. The professional version is supposed to be even more impressive, whenever it comes out.

LOL....as I said...it took me a week just to do a "ball"! But, once you can fully utilize it, you can do an entire motion picture! So, who knows....maybe some cool independent Sci Fi thrillers will soon be rolling off your computer and being reviewed at the Cannes Film Festival...!
