As Kevin mentioned in an earlier post, we had some pretty good seeing conditions Monday night here in Northern Virginia. My TEC 140 is still on the mount so I went after a Jupiter series with an eye toward doing an animation. You can see it at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62745990@N05/8369803370/in/photostream/ And here is one of the images from 01-08-2013 01-35-24 UT. It was taken through the TEC 140 w/ a Siebert 4x Barlow at f/28, and a DBK21AU618 (60 fps/180 seconds). The three moons (from top to bottom: Callisto, Io, and Europa) add some interest to the scene, and the whole thing framed very nicely in the TEC...

Brian

Very nice indeed Brian, and the animation gets full marks also - I fully intend to do some imaging with the 5" apo this Saturn apparition: your images and thread about "small bore" imaging stimulated me thereon.....but good Jupiter opportunities were just so few and far between this apparition I'm afraid I couldn't make myself switch over to the "small bore" gear - but I will with Saturn in the coming months!

Brian, awesome image! The moon placement and the GRS make this shot extra nice. I was out the same night and should have captured at a reduced f-ratio to capture this. Thanks for posting

I didn't think the seeing in NC would be up to snuff, so I did some DSO. I saw this moon alignment in the DSLR's live view. You did a much better job at capturing it than I saw! I love the animation!
Well done!

Nice job with the animation!
I got a few captures that night with the three moons, but I am behind in my processing and haven't posted them yet.

I like the moon family, Brian. The animation is very nice. Really gives a 3D impression to the motion.

Thanks Darryl! I look forward to Saturn season, I find it a challenging target...and also good refractor fodder Glad to hear you would like to try some small bore imaging, I find it simpler and more relaxing to use a refractor and OSC from time to time as opposed to scrambling with the C11 and filter wheel. To me the game is to go out and get the best result I can from whatever scope I am using

Thanks David, Steve, Mike, zA, and Kevin The animation stuff is fun, and watching the moons is an education in itself. When I saw the configuration of Jupiter and the satellites on the screen I just knew I would be doing an animation in addition to stills...thanks again for you kind words

Excellent animation! I really like the way the movement of the moons give it depth.
