...about $4k in eyepiece sales a couple of months ago, I decided to try the Sterling Plossls. These are made by Long Perng, in Taiwan, and are also sold by Astronomics under the Astro-Tech brand.
I picked up the entire set, including the 2-inchers, which aren't available under the Astro-Tech brand. If these measure up at f/6 and f/7, they'll become my "harsh site" and primary outreach eyepieces.
Price for the whole set (40mm, 30mm, 25mm, 20mm, 17mm, 12.5mm, 6mm and 4mm) was $280, and includes a small pluck foam case.
Regards,
Jim

In addition to the full set, I bought extras In the 12.5-20mm range for bino-viewing. I used the 30 and 40mm with my AT72ED for quite a while before purchases of other EP's put the 2 inchers to rest, as well as my initial plan to use that scope as a finder for my 17.5 dob; but its just too good for that!

So what you're saying is, selling off a bunch of eyepieces wasn't for the purpose of reducing the number of eyepieces in your stable, it was to make room for more eyepieces. Sweet!

I have the LER versions from Long Perng that are sold by a variety of vendors. I love them for outreach. Everyone seems to have an easy time using them whether they are children or people with glasses. I have some that I got from Smart Astronomy for as low as $39.95. Telescopes.com had them from $49.95 to $69.95. Orion is way high at about $100.00. One thing I can't understand is why Orion is selling 2 versions of the same EP. The LER are the same as the Edge On Planetaries with just a different housing I'm pretty sure. The only one I have that seems to be different from the rest is the 18mm. The ER does not seem the same.

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.
Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.
Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
Sorry. Couldn't resist. So that's what was goin on...you sold summa yer EPs to finance a harsh environment set-up...Brilliant! Strange that yer original EP collection never included the oft-lauded Sterlings...nuthin to do but chalk the whole affair up to fate.

I don't get the impression Jim sold $4k in eyepieces a couple months ago in order to purchase the plossls. I think I read that as he has spent $4k in eyepieces in the past, and a couple months ago he bought the sterling plossls to augment his collection.

Jim isn't saying much at all yet. We need to see a first light report!

The 40mm is backordered, so it'll come a couple of months after the rest.
