Mark the date!
Starting about Dec 1, 2020, our two greatest solar system neighbors will be a couple degrees apart. On the 21st of December, 2020 I'll be posting myself and a good scope on a mountain with low western horizons, because Jupiter and Saturn will be with one quarter of a degree of each other! Oh unbounded joy!
Plug it into Stellarium! It's going to breathtaking, though unfortunately swimming in the horizon-soup.
Is everyone ready?

I think the ancient Incan medium-count calendar runs out in November that year. Sorry.

So about June of 2020 the internet will come alive with all sorts of bizarre predictions of earthquakes, plagues and fiery portents in the sky because Jupiter and Saturn are going to collide in December . . . .

20th or 21st will be good. Hope one of those nights are clear. Ya only about 12 degrees above horizon here, but then again we just want to see it, not try to glean all sorts of detail on the planets.

Yeah, but will Mars appear larger than the full Moon? Or does that come later that year...

I found this conjunction too! It's just too bad that the two planets will be so far past opposition. It will be interesting too see where we are with the state of imaging, so that we can capture a wide dynamic range between the planets and their moons.
I remember the last time when Jupiter and Saturn were close together, in 2000 IIRC. I was on one of my revisits to the hobby, and found it amazingly convenient to swing my Coulter from planet to planet -- not far from the zenith, no less.

I would pencil it in, but since the calendar on my wall ends on December 31, 2013, I must assume that the world is going to end that day.
