I'm not a motorist, but my bicycle saddlebag always contains an Opticron 'Sequoiah' reverse-porro 9 x 21MC. Nice & light at 184g, plus a 7 degree field. Cossetted in bubble-wrap.

The EDC bag in the car is a pair of Bushnell 10X25s. Not the best for astro but better than the 1X5s i was born with. Also have a really cheap monopod for a bit of stability.

at the current time, no binoculars
but
my orion 10-25x42 monocular
-cheap
-expendable
-useful at 10x with higher if necessary
I was at my grandkids school waiting to pick them up,
when I saw a bird on a distant limb
? hawk, but could not ID at that distance with 6.5x19 pentax papillio,
now I can ID distant birds, but maybe not close birds

In the center console: Nikon Venturer 8x23 binoculars. Very handy for looking ahead when stopped in traffic to see what lane to get into to get on the freeway. In the fanny pack/go bag: Olympus Roamer 8x21 (unexpectedly good). Also, an old, tiny Edmund Scientific triple optical tool that's a poor monocular, a decent but awkward loupe, and a pretty darn good low-power microscope when illuminated with an LED light.

As of this weekend - that would be my Vortex Viper HD 6x32. Replacing a Nikon 8x32SE, which is taking a trip to Nikon service. I always keep my binocs in the trunk of my minivan in a small insulated cooler. In summer, I won't leave them in the car if I know I'll be away more than hour.

For near home I always have the 7x50’s in my truck. When I’m away from home (presently 1200km from home) my 10x42’s & 15x70’s with a tripod. That way I can enjoy the night sky with either and can use the 10x42’s for when I go on hikes.
