Has anybody got any first hand experience with mounting a 40 pound+ OTA on a DM6 mount head on a quality tripod for visual ?
Are there serious vibration problem with such a setup?
Can the DM6 handle 40-50 pound weight of an SCT (12" Meade) ?
I have in mind a rob miller tripod or the berlebach planet.

I use my DM-6 on my Losmandy G11 tripod with a 12" pier extension and adpter that Discmount sells. I use that setup with a C9.25 not quite as heavy as wht you have.

I've been meaning to try this with My AP wood tripod and Meade 12. I will get back to you as soon as the weather clears, LOL.
At NEAF there was a TEC180FL that is comparable in weight but much longer than the Meade 12, but it was surprisingly steady!

I don't know you came across this thread but here you go DM-6.
I use MN-86 (45lb with binoviewer) on DM-6 with Losmandy FHD tripod.
Joe had his Mewlon 300 on DM6 with counter weight on Astro Physics 6" Eagle Adjustable Folding Pier, perhaps. That's something.

Thanks for the comments - If Tammy Uses 45 Pounds on it I think I will manage with the 12" as well.

Thanks a lot for pointing me to the thread. I never knew that the DM6 has an option for a Shaft and CW. I am still waiting for the DM6 to Arrive, but I guess according to people's responses in this thread with this Shaft extension and counterweights there is not going to be any problem with 45 Pounds even at the altidude movements.
Looks like I'm gonna get me the Shaft and CW after testing the DM6 when it arrives.

The AP counterweights did not fit the DM6 counterweight shaft like I hoped. I have to use a CGE weight which has a bigger center hole, but since the shaft is always horizontal it shouldn't matter too much.

I use a C11 EdgeHD on the DM6. You may want the handle. There isn't much leverage on the back of the scope compared to using a refractor.

Jeff,
Thanks for the heads up.
The package I bought (used) includes the 16" handle.
I e-mailed Rob Miller about a Tr36M or Tri36H to go with the DM6,
So far No response
