Pentax PCF WPII 10x50 don't fit...garrett classic? new
      #5620707 - 01/13/13 12:40 PM

I had been thinking about the PCF for a while and decided to get some last week. Now am disappointed as they just don't fit well. The eyecups are too hard/large, and they just hurt the bridge of my nose after I adjust the IPD correctly. I tried with the eyecups in various positions. Some searching showed me others have had similar issues. Also, they don't *quite* fit on my farsight mount and have the right IPD (barrels hit the bracket).

Wonderful optics otherwise if a bit narrow FOV.
But I think am going to return them.

My wife has 8x40 Nikon AEs and they exhibit the same sort of problem for me (but not to the same degree), so the Nikon AE 10x50s are not for me either.

I have some old Fuji Meibo 7x50s that I *love*, old japan 7x35s, and skymaster 15x70s which are serviceable... been wanting a 10x to round things out and I thought the Pentax would be it.

Should I go for Garrett Classic 10x50s? They were my second choice. But are the eyecups softer/smaller?

If those are the fuji clones then the IF tends to limit their use to fixed objects only as adjustments for focusing become tireing and slow,DA.

the Garrett Classics are CF and have folding rubber eyecups. They are wider than the pentax eyecups, but much much softer. Should not have a problem on the FarSight

The current model of Garret Classic 10x50s do not have folding eyecups, they have twist up eyecups. I know this because I own a pair. They are pretty wide eyecups at that. The Gemini 10x50s do have folding eyecups.

Hmmm. will go look up some Gemini reviews. Hadn't been looking at those.

It seems most good binoculars have the hard eyecups now.
I like the rubber/soft ones, keeps more "stray light" out from the sides when using in the daytime (or if the neighbor has a bright annoying porch light.)

Could go for the resolux/signature ones, those look like (smaller) rubber folding eyecups, but didn't quite have that in mind for the budget. Plus not sure I want individual focus for my 10x50s.

Will keep trying the pentax for a few days in the meantime.
