Noah - this is a very good start. Build on the experience - Orion is not an easy object to capture without blowing out the Trap area. Lots of nebulosity around it in Barnard's Loop as well. Stopping the lens to f/4 would help with vignette and sharpen the star probably, but adjust exposure to match. How is the light pollution in your area? This may determine max exposure.

Thanks for the advice! About the light pollution, the faintest stars I can see with the naked eye at zenith are a little fainter than magnitude 5. The sky fog limit through my telescope is about 50-60 minutes with my filter, and through my lens it is about 13 minutes (h-alpha filtered). Good idea about stopping down the lens, I'll have to try that if it ever clears up around here!
