I've been estimating variable stars, mainly LPV's, for over 5 years, and have recently began observing some of the UXOR and Irregular stars too. I'd like to give these stars closer scrutiny by learning and eventually using photometry. Could the Atic Titan be used ? I mention this camera because I was thinking of doing green channel DSLR work, but as the Titan is similarly priced, is cooled, monochrome and I can use a V filter, and add a filter wheel to include other filters later etc.. I might suggest that you consider a used one known to do good photometry. I have seen older ST7s going for less than the unit you mention. For example, I know people who do photometry with DSLR lenses, essentially refractors. I suggest an email AAVSO headquarters, I bet they will say "no problem."
