I have a CG5 and tripod... I think its one of the later ones, it has big tubular legs it doesn't look like some of the pictures of older ones I have seen.
I would like to be able to attach something else to the tripod for a head occasionally. Like my paragon bino mount for instance.
How can I get a normal 3/8 or 1/4 tripod bolt sticking out the top?
Research on this topic just confused me....

Unscrew the 10mm center bolt and use a 3/8 or 1/4 bolt and washer...

Oh. yeah. I didn't even look at unthreading the existing rod or looking to see how its captured in the mount, thanks.
With just a smaller bolt there, would be no leg spreader. Some all-thread of the right length and or something could be made up into a longer assembly to get that attached also...basically just replace the central rod with a 3/8 one...

I did the same thing for my CG5AS tripod to convert it to use with an LXDa55 mount: works great, and cost around 20 cents.

Yes it did work great... just a 12" piece of 1/4" threaded rod and a some wing nuts and washers. Wanted 3/8" originally but the 3/8 threads half catch on the M10 threads in tripod, and didn't want to pull/strip anything. So using 1/4 and a tripod bushing.
Also took a very thick walled 3" ABS plastic cap and drilled a center hole in it - using that as a top plate as a head I wanted to try on it didn't sit right on the cg5 tripod itself.
Works out well and now have a multi-use tripod.
