One would never know that you were "pretty new to woodworking." Your new eyepiece case looks totally professional. Beautiful craftsmanship

Thanks James, I really like the long hinge that you used for that case. Also the mitered corners are really nice.
Terra thanks so much. I am envious of your collection of classic and vintage scopes.

Beautiful work, Christopher. Really impressed with that. Currently trying to plot putting together a wooden case, after falling in love with the Wood Wonders cases. Have already spent more than twice the cost of buying one just in getting the tools I figured I'd need for it...!

This shows the stepped lid option that can be easily cut into the sides as the box is being built, as I described above. This is a 'scrap wood' case I built for my .965 EP's.... but I cheated, because it's not my first box....I'm a pro woodworker...... Russ

Thanks Ubermick and Galileo. Ubermick good luck with your project. Lots of my tools were hand me downs from my dad. When he upgrades he usually gives me the old tool if I want it.
I get just as much fun out of building these projects(scope, cases, etc...) as using them. Now that my wife has seen some of my work she wants me to make some furniture for her. I don't mind because I like doing it and it gets some use out of my tools that will otherwise just sit there. I guess what I am saying is just be sure you like woodworking as a whole because if you purchase lots of new tools you may take a loss selling them off if you find that its not for you.
Roscoe, your box looks very professional. I like the rabbeted lid. Is that a inlay in the center of the tray or just a gap?

It's a piece of Ebony. I had a nice piece of maple about 2" square and a foot long, and when I cut it in half, I decided it needed to be a little wider than 4", and that ebony piece was just about the right size to sandwich between the maple blocks. R
