Hello Everyone:

Just checking to see who might make the show this year from CN:

http://www.meteorite.com/tucson/

I plan to attend February 7th through the 10th - the days of the IMCA dinner, Geoff and Steve's Birthday Bash, and Michael Blood's auction.

Drop a post if you plan to attend...

Best Regards,

- RF

Hi Russ,
We won't be there this year. My wife and I would have loved to meet you and so many others we read and hear about. I have yet to make the Tucson trip. We're leaving for Cozumel, during this years show dates, instead. Hopfully next year.

Davio R.

Hmm... I was sure I had replied, Russ.
I'll be there again, along with my wife, from the 5th to the 11th.
Bringing some fresh-sliced Mbale, for trading.
Hoping to spend some time at Holbrook on the way down.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Linton

My wife designs and makes jewelry so she would be interested in the other stuff at the show, we could make it a family trip. I saw from the meteorite vendors blog that at least one vendor would be set up for a couple of weeks. For someone with only 3-4 days (say, Thurs thru Sun) what would be the best time to attend?

You can see all the meteorite vendors and their locations on this page:

http://www.meteorite.com/tucson-hotels/

You will have enough time to visit most of these in 2-3 days. As Peter said the best days to visit are February 7th through the 9th - that is when the night activities happen and most of the major collectors are in attendance. You quickly find out that you are not alone in this crazy hobby.

A quick warning - once you go to the show once you will probably become addicted like the rest of us!

Best Regards,

- RF

Thanks Russ; that link works!!
I was planning on driving down for a few days, but the weather was not cooperating for camping that weekend, and I could not find Ruben's live feed of the birthday bash online as in past years, so the pics helped to feed my lack of participation at this years event.

Bob

Hello Everyone:

OK - here is a quick update from the show...

I spent three days working my way through the various hotels and rooms looking at all the meteorites which were available for sale. Each dealer specializes in different offerings - so you really have to travel around pretty quickly to get an idea of what is available - and then make decisions fairly soon after that to buy things before others beat you to it!

One of my goals at the show is to purchase something big (at least 2 kilograms or more) and something historic (1800s or 1700s). This year I met this goal by purchasing a 3.5 kilogram unclassified NWA from one of the dealers from Morocco. I also bought some smaller NWAs as well.

I also bought several historical stones:

1.5 gram slice of Krasnojarsk (found in 1749)
.114 gram slice of Hraschina (fell in 1751)
.081 gram slice of Tabor (fell in 1753)
.161 gram slice of Mezö-Madaras (fell in 1852) - ASU
.14 gram slice of Agen (fell in 1814)

All have great surface area for such small sizes.

Some other difficult to obtain stones I purchased were:

- Ainsworth
- Mount Joy (ASU specimen)
- Ute Creek
- Walltown
- Rupota

The stones below I bought by really scanning the offerings closely:

- Bechar 001 (I bought multiple specimens)
- Mount Tazerzait
- Sikhote-Alin (nice shape)
- Imilchil (new unclassified iron)
- NWA 7676 (new LL3) I bought a small individual
- Maslyanino (Russian pallasite)
- Kress (d) - from Texas!!
- Caranccas - some upgrades

I bought a few small things at the Michael Blood Auction - but the most significant was a great etched slice of Nova Petropolis (29.78 grams) from Brazil.

I purchased one last very interesting item - but I'll save it for a posting of its own!

Best Regards,

- RF
