3X barlow to use with WO Bino. new

Any suggestions for a good 3X barlow to use with my WO Bino will be greatly appreciated.

Is the included 1.6X magnification barlow nose piece not working out for you? Which telescope are you using it with?

a 3x barlow in front of a binoviewer is going to result in about 6x.

What I'm trying to do is use barlows instead of various EPs. The WO comes with two 20mm EPs, instead of getting two smaller EPs I thought a 3X barlow would work. I have the 1.6 that came with the bino unit and I have a 2x Celestron barlow. From what I've read, there are only a few choices of different EPs that work well with it. The 20mm seems optimal, but because of it's limited aperture (not sure what word to describe it) a larger EP would vignette. And smaller ones will quickly reach the magnification limit. So if barlows are not the way to go, what more powerful EPs can be used with it.

I don't have mine up and running yet but I plan on using one of the zooms I have in one side of the BV to find what magnifications will work with the focuser travel I have and which ones won't.

As for FOV with your 1.25" nose piece I suspect narrow FOV eyepieces (Plossls) might be your best bet. If you have some in various magnifications, try them and see what works and double up on the ones that do.

Rather than Barlows, which really boost the WO bino to much higher powers than I like, I use a Siebert multi-mag OCA, which gives me 1.25x up to around 3x or so, depending upon the configuration you use. I am only using three pairs of eyepieces while using this OCA.

Try putting the WO corrector in front of the diagonal if you want more mag (assuming you are using a 1-1/4 diagonal). It'll be closer to 3x when threaded on in front of the diagonal.

That is how I did things when I used the WO with my C5 (I eventually went to a pair of 8mm eyepieces and no barlow or corrector).

On my C11, I use a power-x-switch diagonal and a pair of 20mm and a pair of 15mm eyepieces.

Have you tried using your 2x Celestron barlow? It would probably give you around 4x when used with your binoviewer.

Shawn, yes I have and it works very well. Hence, my thinking that a 3X would also do well....

The GSO Superview 15mm (70deg) eyepieces work really well in my WO binoviewer. Use them 95+% of the time.

I sometimes leave my 2x OCA on the binoviewer and use a 2x zhumell barlow which works well and gets me around 6x. In my scope with 20mm eyepieces this gets me around 300x magnification.

I screw in the nose of my TV 3x barlow onto the end of my Denks and use 19 Pans on the planets to start out with on my 10" f/5. It works fantastic when the seeing is good, or tells me when the seeing is not so good! As Ed says, it works out to be something like 5-6X magnification.
