I am planning to make a small unmanned observatory for my solar scopes. It will be strictly remote operated. Is there a software package that will allow me to control focusers, cameras, and mount? If there is no single package what would be the best approach to take?

Take a look at CCD Commander and CCD Autopilot. They are both nice auto control programs that make use of other software packages. They make auto control easy.

I am doing the same thing. I settled on CCDAutopilot. You can download demo versions of both.

Hmmmm.....solar. Wondering how the focusing programs would handle that. You might be able to control the focuser remotely but I dont know of an automated routine for solar.

I'm not aware of one either but OTOH, it is not like you don't have sufficient light and I plan to use a video cam from either PointGrey or ImagingSource. You have 15fps at least downloading so I believe you should be able to get a good focus. We shall see as they say......

I also believe focusing will be an issue. As Jeff pointed out most focus programs are looking for the Full Width Half Maximum of star not a large object like the sun. It might be possible to get a focus program to converge on a Sun spot but I would not count on it.
