I got this little beauty today, its circle K optics, same as a prinz 660, but with tasco 10TE eq mount and wooden crate, the pics show just how good a condition its in, i wont be using it with original mount, but getting tube rings to put it on the HEQ5 and AZ4 mounts to get the best from it on Luna, planets and doubles

NIce scope! Interesting finder scope mount and I really like the large aluminum focus knobs. Looks a little more modern than most scopes I've seen on a mount from this era.

Focuser looks 1.25 but was it 0.965 originally? Possible change out of the eyepiece retaining ring? Personally, I try to change out the ring to 1.25" when possible on my vintage refractors (or reflectors). I still keep the original .965 ring and any proprietary eyepices with the scope, for posterity sake. Part of the pleasure of the older classics, for me, is to be able to use the original configuration just for the exprience of what the scope gave at the time. My main classic viewing is done with 1.25" if possible, but the occasional original equipment gives a different pleasure for me.

Yes it has a 1.25 diagonal holder fitted to the draw tube, looks similar to a vixen unit, i also have the original along with 3 0.965 ep`s with it, but it will only be used with 1.25 ortho`s, the ply box, mount and other little bits have already been consigned to the celler, i now need to order some tube rings to mount it on my AZ4

I have one of the very, very early Prinz 660 from the 1960's, it also came with the 1.25" eyepeice holder.
It has different tube clamp and finder scope from the model that Jules has.
The model that Jules's has were made from 1970 onwards.

One thing I have seen with with quite a many of the 660 is that the tube is so ong that the middle section is un-painted.
On mine it was bright shiney metal. When viewing the moon I noticed some reflections and a lack of
contrast when compared to my Towa 339.
I knocked out the old baffles, repainted the inner section with a darker black paint, put a new baffle system in.
The scope was then a match for my excellent Towa.

Nice one Jules, that takes me back, especially the mount identical to my old Tasco I reckon. The focuser looks pretty solid.Keep us posted on how it goes once you get the tube rings

I am now ready for first light, but the UK weather has been awful, you astronomers across the pond have it so good, i set the scope up on the AZ4 mount and pointed it towards some tree`s a way of, and with an 18mm BGO it gave very sharp clear views, just need the rare thing of a good clear night and point it at Jupiter and some double stars, it will be very interesting to see how it performs with the trapezium in M42

Yes nice scope the focusser knobs /large alumiminium are not origional and they are secured by allen headed bolts also not origional ,does it matter ? not really most telescopes get upgraded over time ,it's what you see through the eyepiece that counts.
I have a prinz 660 old gold and still usable .

Well im pleased to say i managed a very brief first light with this on the AZ4 mount, managed x178 mag against a full moon with poor seeing, i would say its full of promise, im very happy with it

I had a second, very short look through this scope, and found some thing was "eclipsing" the view at high power, after some investigating, it appears the baffles in the draw tube were infringing on the view, so i have removed these, and i found that the draw tube was rather like chrome finish on the inside, so cleaned it and flocked it matt black.
Another little job i have done is to make a slightly longer dew shield, i used an old cleaned 3ltr coke bottle with some cutting to size so it slips over the original, then covered the outside with white sticky back plastic film, and flocked the inside, pics to follow

looks like the mods worked, got a gap in the cloud tonight and pointed it at the luna surface, very sharp and clear
