Hi all. Thinking of taking a lazy susan bearing and sandwiching it between two pieces of plywood to make a base and swiveling platform (just large enough for the footprint of the lawn chair). Would any of these bearings work http://www.woodcraft.com/category/2001061/lazy-susan-bearings.aspx ? Thanks.... Phil

I used the 12" size in a chair and it worked fine. I weigh about 200 lbs and I suppose the chair and its supports added another 10 or 20.

I got one at Lowes that will carry 1000lbs for $10. I put it on the bottom of my 17.5" base and it's nice and smooth. De Lorme

My chair (images in my Gallery, linked to below) uses a 17-1/2" diameter aluminum ring bearing purchased from Lee Valley here in Ottawa. It's not inexpensive, but the large footprint is very much more stable than a 12" lazy Susan. A friend built a chair using a 12" lazy Susan, and added several furniture glides well outside the bearing for support if his body weight shifts and would otherwise stress the bearing due to tilt.

Glad to know DeLorme that it's working for you. I'll keep the 1000 lb. load in mind. Glenn, that's remarkable, I admire anyone that can do something like that. Furniture glides are an excellent idea. Thanks all..... Phil
