Not happen' here. And for the same reason I don't have Apple products.

But I might go for a used Delos or two if I sell my XW's.

Ahem, the point was that you have a habit of purchasing eyepiece lines (UO VTs, BGOs, XOs) which tend to go extinct and no longer be produced.

Kind of like when I was in the military; and every base I was assigned to got closed shortly after I was stationed elsewhere..........

True, or so it appears. So you're saying I might be jinxing these lines?

But I also have the countervailing tendency to sell individual eyepieces from those lines if something clearly better comes along ... or I get an offer I can't refuse!

Maybe I should consider my sig as an advertisment for potential future sales?

I think, though, that the high-end Televue are safe from any curse I might have on lines of eyepieces! Not much chance of my affecting the Ethos...

Drat drat drat! That's what I get for not ordering the UO Abbes that I've had my eye on for quite a while. I thought Jan would retire one of these days and wasn't sure what would happen then, but I wasn't expecting the manufacturer to close up shop.

The Golden Rule of astronomy books *and* astro equipment seems to be "if you really want it, get it while it's available, because it may be gone tomorrow." I've learned that lesson for books (no, you cannot buy my Rukl at any price), but I'm still learning it for gear the hard way.

Yup yup yup!!
Take note: One day, a post will appear that Don Yeier is calling it quits, and Brandon eyepieces will no longer be made. (He assembles them all himself, by hand.) That will be a devastating day. UO orthos are excellent - I've got one - but Brandons are superb, and arguably the highest quality eyepiece of this genre currently in production. And, they're the last of the all-American made eyepieces, to boot.

So take heed, and think about getting some Brandons now, while there's time.

Any woman knows you have to buy shoes and clothes when you see them - come back later and your in for the disappointment of only being able to buy in the sizes no one else wants....

Still - chin up because you know that lots of people will sell as soon as something new comes along.

I just got the 9mm yesterday.Skies were clear as a bell of course until I prepared to go outside and the clouds sensed my intent....I was going to wait until the summer to purchase it, but had to move before they disappeared.

Yep, I'm learning these lessons myself. I have a Tak FS-152 and love the fluorite doublet and don't plan on letting it go--they'll never be made again. Any planetary or double star observer will be well-served to get some Brandons.

Now I'm sorry for having sold my 6mm. Frankly it was a very difficult eyepiece to use, but you couldn't complain about the views.

Yes, the short focal length Abbes are not the friendliest oculars. I have the 6mm and will never let it go, but I have never been tempted to get the 4mm or 5mm. But when I want to push my scope, the 6mm gives sharp views.

I had hoped to get the 18mm, but that seems to have been the first one to go out of stock. I'm guessing that it was a less-popular focal length and fewer were produced. Oh, well, I ordered a Televue 20mm Plossl instead.

Truly the end of the Tani era. I missed the boat on the BGOs and the UOHDs while I concentrated on these.

You do keep caps on those right? I would hate to hear about how the lenses got scratched up after leaving them exposed to the egg crate foam in the top lid.

I just ordered and successfully received the 25mm and 12.5mm volcano tops from UO. They do still have a few left, so get 'em while you can!

For any UK folk Lyra Optics still have Cir. Ts in all sizes except 25mm.

Its a real shame that future scope fans wont have orthos available apart from the BCOs.
