Crater Parry at the top of the sketch has a diameter of 47km and although its heavily damaged and lava flooded, steep cliffs still surround it and cast an ink black shadow which really stood out and was the reason for sketching this area.
Below Parry is the walled plain Guericke at 63km its larger but heavily eroded and partly open to Mare Nubium.

Holy... !!! Mike, really, I'd put this right away on the wall in my living room. It's a piece worthy of a museum! If I were a curator I'd immediately throw a lot of so-called "modern art" straight out of the window and put drawings like these in stead. It's not just the realism that strikes me, this goes beyond... It's impressionism... shades which make you rediscover new things every time you look... And most important of all, it's made with true artist tools and not with a computer (like my drawings). I'm seriously impressed!

Mike,
Excellent rendering! You truly know how to use the media of conte' crayon (or pastels I'm guessing) on black paper.
Wait til Frank sees this.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I started using pastels last summer and I think I'm slowly starting to improve, I have never been very arty in the past so its been a case of experimenting and alot of learning from my mistakes!
Last night was the first time that I have used a motorised mount (EQ5) for a lunar sketch and it felt like an absolute luxury not having to nudge the dob every few seconds.
We've had really poor weather in the UK this winter so it felt great to be out once again, I think I had big grin on my face all the time I was out!

OMG Mike.
What a piece of art... I agree with Peter, this is really something I would put on a wall. So detailed and nicely rendered. Looks real.

Mike,
What a fantastic sketch. At high sun it is a little difficult to tell which of these two is the deepest and surrounded by the highest walls but in your rendering there is no doubt. Wonderful post.

That is a really great sketch. I love the contrast between the very dark Perry and the bright reflecting Guericke.

Superb Mike, I agree with the friends here. And you give us another reason to point our telescopes to this Moon area.
