April Wide Field. Nikon D90, 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor, 6 secs at ISO 1600. Alpha Persei Cluster,an open cluster in the constellation of Perseus. Natural ambient (neighborhood) light on the trees.

Okay, it's not my first astrophoto (those are a little further up in the thread), but this is my first image with my new mount, new camera, and new guider. M42 (surprise surprise), 80 minutes total exposure with SBIG STF-8300M. Stacked in DSS, levels adjusted and channels combined in Photoshop. I'm pretty proud of it, though it's pretty rudimentary processing.

Jupiter last night. This is after I collimated the astrograph. The first attempt was way out of focus.

This is one from the first shots i took with my Symax 90mm Skywatcher, with a Canon A3200 IS, with 20mm lens. I've adjusted the contrast etc also

Here is my first photo. I'm still waiting on a couple things that will allow me to mount the camera on my CG-4. For now, just a tripod shot of Jupiter and Pleiades.

I'm right in the middle of the Northern Virginia light bubble, so I'm happy how this came out. I had intended to image Andromeda if possible, but clouds rolled in and I barely got this one finished. At 1600 ISO and f/3.5, my histogram was hitting 1/3 by the end of my 8-second sub. Not awesome.

Canon EOS Rebel T3
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens
Manfrotto tripod with ball head
20 x 8s lights, 20 darks (no flats, no bias)
ISO 1600, f/3.5

Total integration time for the image was 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Image was stacked in DeepSkyStacker and post-processed in StarTools.

Here's my first ever! M42, of course.

Still in a mild state of shock that this came out of my telescope. The capability of the equipment far made up for the ineptness of the operator!

8 x 300 second images stacked, and some auto-level stuff in Nebulosity.

Took a tour first night out with my new gear! I'd never polar aligned a mount before tonight and I had to power off and do my 3-star alignment a second time.

Canon T4i, Stock
Orion 8" f/4.9 Reflector
Orion Atlas EQ-G, Unguided

M31, 8x30s ISO 1600
Managed some dust lanes.

M42, 16x30s ISO 1600

M44, 8x30s ISO 1600

M45, 8x30s ISO 1600
Tiny bit of nebulosity.

M81, M82, 8x30s ISO 1600
These were hard to frame in live view.

NGC2024, 32x30s ISO 1600

I just used DSS to align the RGB channels and adjust the luminosity. Pretty sure I need a coma corrector and some work on my collimation/focusing.

Okay for a first night I think...

For your first attempt at Saturn, I'd say that's wonderful!

My first few attempt with Saturn were with 1.25" eyepiece projection using a not-so-great DSLR (a Pentax ist Ds) with only about 6.1 megapixels, and with no liveview to help focus. Now Canon Rebel T2i's are better, CCD's with at least 10 megapixels are great, but I've heard webcams are the greatest with planetary.

PS: my first few pics of Saturn, made the planet over-exposed making the the ring-planet look all one shade, bled together with no darkness between the ring.

It looks great. Keep up the great work!

Ok, here's mine. To be honest, I used to do film astrophotography way back in the day and have done a lot of visual observing, so focus, alignment etc are all things I have done before. However, this is my first attempt at digital astrophotography after a lot of reading and research. This is a great community for that!

This was the result of 11 light frames 30sec @ ISO1000, stacked in Deep Sky Stacker using dark, flat and bias frames. Processed in photoshop after stacking.

Here's my first attempt at a real astrophoto. Taken with my C8 and a Microsoft Lifecam. I used SharpCap, stacked with AutoStakkert and edited with Photoshop CS2. I edited Jupiter separately from the moons in an attempt to bring out the moons better. I'm glad I purchased a Bahtinov mask as it sure made it easier. I learned that I need to either buy a new mount or construct a drive controller for the C8 as I had to keep moving the scope ahead to track the planet. Anyone got good construction plans for a drive controller for a C8?

I bought my scope in December, was able to make use of it only 2 times right after I got it. I spent next 2 months preparing for next opportunity. Got my chance 2 days ago, clouds cleared a bit and revealed some of the starry sky. And I was lucky that moon earthshine was visible at the time. Great opportunity to test prime focus astrophotography, I thought. By the time I set up the gear, clouds started to cover the moon. I did few shots right before it disappeared completely. I assumed they sucked, so didn't bother to check them until today. Turns out it wasn't as horrible as I thought. Still sucks, and earthsine is nowhere to be found (clouds and foggy air sucks).

Anyway, enough with the boring story, here's my first ever attempt at astrophotography.

Hardware used. SkyWatcher 150mm f/5 on EQ3-2 + Sony Alpha A200 in prime focus. ISO 800, 1/4s exposure. Used Gimp to crop, reduce saturation, bump up contrast etc.
