Post 3/3. The previous owner had the tripod professionally cut down Petersen-style because he did not like the mounting height. I usually observe objects that are high in the sky, and to get a more comfortable seating position I extend the legs to approximately the original height, as shown here. But I like it that the collapsed tripod fits neatly in the trunk behind the JMI case of the scope, which it would not in my smallish car if it was not cut down.

My humble Meade LX10 8" SCT.
Upgraded the focuser with the Peterson Engineering EZ Focus kit and added my "custom" dial as well.

My 12" LX200 "Classic" ... still going strong after 12 years in the observatory! It's used exclusively for imaging ... with perfect 3 minute unguided exposures and 20 minute or longer guided shots. The goto's are always right-on and its optics are superb. I could never find a good reason to upgrade it to a newer model.

My 10" LX-200 "Classic"
Fortunately, I was in the right place at the right time. I purchased it for a song from a couple that used it as a decoration in their sun-room. It sat on its tripod for nearly 10 years with plastic flowers and seashells under it.
The previous owners lost the cables and HBX over the years, but that was okay with me. A good once-over revealed that it was in great shape, both mechanically and optically.
I immediately replaced the classic electronics with the GMD & Associates Deluxe AutoStar upgrade and haven't looked back.
I couldn't be happier!
Cheers and Clear Skies,
C.

Hi Bruce, I usually use 240v to 12v 8amp transformer at home (I live in Australia) but when setting up in remote areas I have found this setup reasonable to use. 2 x 12v 900a jump starters connected in parallel I bought them cheap on sale about 3 years ago and they are still going well. They run the 12 inch LX200 and 2 dew heaters on full power for around 6 hours.
