Hi folks--This morning I captured what appears to be a satellite transit near AR 11660 with my Lunt 100/2.5x powermate and DMK 41. Cant seem to find any info for a transit at that time of day--anyone recognize the object?
It took about 7 seconds to clear my fov.

Had a quick look in Stellarium , the only one it showed somewhere near was NOAA16.
Without more data , ie Transit time and exact location it's a little difficult to pin down any closer.

Great picture by the way . .

Steve.

A guy contacted me and says he thinks its SATCOM-C5 which he says transited the sun around 1035am pacific time which is pretty close to the time i imaged it. Who knows...--I know nothing about satellites and tracking them.

I vote for group of balloons, because
1. so big size
2. takes so long to transit

Also the way the string moves.

I've actually seen a "balloon bunch transit" with my PST before. Pretty certain that's what this is.

There are some distinctly non balloon-like square edges in there , especially on your larger image.

Strange one this . . .

Well the concensus on the various boards and chats is that it is a balloon with a scientific payload. One guy down in Australia sent me some info and says he caught the same thing years back. Since I know nothing about balloons or satellites, thats what Im going with

I've seen jet liners, large birds, and Venus transiting the sun . . . of course never having a camera/imaging system I can only "talk about it" but I agree that this may most likely be balloons. . . or a large UFO sucking Hydrogen out of our atmosphere to power its fusion propulsion system ! ! ! Nah! balloons really!

Good seeing,
Bob
