"BrightStar" Mammut vs Lodestar-C for live view

Hi folks, i'm considering one of the following camera for near live-view observation:

StarBright Mammut
Lodestar-C

Both have the ICX429 sensor.They are about the same price(from here in Canada). The only big difference is that the Mammut is TEC cooled while the Lodestar is air cooled. I read a lot of good thing about the Lodestar. Not much concerning the Mammut(not a lot of review). Do you think the Mammut would be a better deal than the Lodestar? Does the TEC cooling would make a difference?

I think you mean the Brightstar Mammut camera. Looks like a possible winner as the pixels are large (read sensitive) and set point cooling which will reduce noise and can only be a good thing. 499 Euros could turn out to be kinda pricey by the time you get it to Canada eh.

Still cheaper than the mallincam xtreme at 1600$ (with exview) . Minus taxes, of course. The mammut would be 700-800 can $. Well, its more than half the price so we dont have the same definition of pricey.

This Mammut cam sounds like an east european product but has "Portugal" stamped on it - so is it a rebadged Akit cam

The mammut has the same specs as the old Orion Starshoot Deep Sky Imager II. Same sensor and same cooling capability(-20C).

I also think the Orion was a rebaged Atik. Mammut and Orion SSDI II same camera?

The thread quotes Lodestar so here my Lodestar samples from last Wednesday night in M51 Whirlpool, M97 Owl, M82 Cigar and M81 Bode. May have to wait for Mammut pics

This picture was taken with my CPC1100 SCT Celestron ALT / AZ mount from my home in April 1 at 23:30. The camera is my new Bright Star MAMMUT color CCD IMAGER with focal reducer around f / 3. A simple image with a
exposure time of 40 seconds and no image processing (no flat, dark
or bias).

I suppose it's C11's coma exacerbated by the Meade 3.3 reducer which has only a 4mm corrected/flattned field (at least that's what I know).

Oh, congrats for the new camera!

How much gain have you used for the M42 5 seconds exposure?

Can you show us an image of precisely 20s with maximum gain of Running Man nebula and one of M51?

I have a C11 too and I'm curious to those.

Yes the coma from that setup seem quite severe but may perhaps be improved by refocusing.

I use the Meade 3.3 FR on my Meade 12" f/10 @ f/3.6 and still have some coma in the corners via the Lodestar-C - OC NGC 2266 in Gem from April 1st in 60s exp below.

Norden, I see the Mammut's ICX429 sensor is Black&White according to Sony specs. How did you get color images?

No it is a color camera. Bright Star has just released a color version of the camera

It's interesting to note that Nytecam has same Meade 3.3 reducer as you and he has a camera with the same sensor of 8mm diagonal but he doesn't have so much coma in his images.
Maybe you should check your collimation.

Norden, when using the Mammut in long exposure mode (say 20s) does the image "grow" on screen like with Mallincam or the screen is black till the exposure ends and than shows the image taken?
