Hi, Alph. It matters little whether or not the pics come from a 'beta-tester' as you insinuate.
Yes they do come from a beta tester. Celestron use those images in their brochures. You can consider those images as made by Celestron for Celestron. However that wasn't really the point that was I making. The point is that the work of that guy is just about the only example of images taken with the 14" HD. The 14" HD is simply not a popular astrograph and for a good reason.
"...Get the best of both worlds, Meade 12" f/8 RCX aka LX850. ..."
Please post the superior pictures you have taken during your direct experience as an owner of the above Meade telescope. If they are as much of an improvement over the Celestron as you say they are they will be truly awesome. We'd all like to see them.

Pics would be nice Alph....
With that Mesu 200, either scope should be solid (very cool mount - always was curious about the whole Mesu line), but I think the versatility (for me), would give the 14" Edge the, well...edge. You really can't go wrong either way.
And, of course, the 14", as has been said before, is a fantastic planetary scope as well. (Was out with a guy doing Hyperstar for the first time with a 14" the other night - very SIMPLE setup after he figured out a workflow.)

I tried the Mesu 200 just once so far. Loved it! Want to put together a really universal setup. Hence, my hesitation as to what to get without killing myself and/or bankrupting the family!

Whelp, whatever you decide on (and, no doubt, something used might rear its head to tempt you with a scope you hadn't thought of because new was too much), sounds like you're going to have a great system!

If i had a permanent setup, i would definitely go with a C14 Edge.
Currently, i am using a C11 edge and i am very happy with it at f/2, f/6,7 and f/10. I don't think an RC can be this versatile. Unless you want to shoot with a very large sensor, I don't see a reason for your dilemma. The answer is C14 Edge hands down!

Also, I believe the 14" Hyperstar can use a chip larger than an APS-size. From Starizona: "Optimized for 27mm diagonal (up to 42mm possible with some vignetting)." Some flats and voila: you could use an 11000 chip all across the board on that scope!
Hey, not like I didn't think long and hard about that setup before going with what I have now!

Edge 14 - that's what I'm leaning to myself. May be even with ONAG guider for F11, F7. I have 80mm WO APO, that can be a guider for Hyperstar and/or a separate imaging scope. Mind-boggling, tell ya...

I am using the 50mm Celestron finder as the guide scope for my Hyperstar configuration. It is perfectly adequate.
Hope this helps

Sedat, I agree, for the Hyperstar, I will be OK with the guider. F7 and, especially F11 - that is where I would most likely need something else. Ian

Then, it is OAG or ONAG depending on the available back focus. Lacerta OAG takes up only 11mm whereas ONAG takes up 66mm.
A separate guide scope will cause problems unless you dont mind egg shaped stars

That's a lot of hooey. The KAF-8300 shows 40% vignetting with a 14" Hyperstar and it is only 22mm diagonally.

Alph - that's odd. I never saw ANY vignetting on any pics taken with an 8300 chip on the 14" shots on the Starizona forum (and I asked people about it). Were you having trouble with your Hyperstar? Perhaps you had the wrong adapter on it? If your spacing was wrong, then that might be what happened.
You should post the vignetted image you took here on the board so we can take a look and figure it out. Yeah, definitely post the picture of your 40% vignetted image from your Hyperstar. Did you check with the guys at Starizona when that happened? They're really helpful about that sort of thing.

By the way, here's a cool comparison on a 14" (non-Edge) Hyperstar and a 4" f/5 refactor from the Starizona site:

Starizona don't want you to know about it. This has been discussed before on this forum and links to images were provided. Unfortunately there is a lot of bad advise on this forum. I wonder if OP realizes that he will need to spend around $10,000 on a camera to match the pixel size to the focal length and the CCD diagonal to the image circle in order to get the best out of the 14" HD.

Alph, I agree that Hyperstars give quite a bit of vignetting. My Hyperstar(3) 11"XLT SC gives me a darkening at about 30% of the field. I always use Flats. And even then there's vignetting, so in addition I have to use GradientXTerminator. Ian

Cool, if y'all say so. From the people I've talked to who own them (not just Starizona; when I was interested in getting this particular set-up) with the 14" (which seem to have less vignetting than the 11's and 8's) the APS chips don't get any.
I'll have to go ask those users again (as it was last year).
