Pages: 1 Mark9473 Postmaster Reged: 07/21/05 Loc: 51°N 4°E S&T fails to renew my subscription       #5640002 - 01/24/13 04:28 AM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   When the time came to renew my subscription to Sky&Telescope I got a series of reminders from them. I then renewed online with a link they provided. This was at the beginning of November. Paid by VISA card, got an order confirmation, picked up my "free gift" (some PCF document) and all was well. Big was my surprise when at the end of December I got an e-mail from them saying that my subscription had expired. A whole series of e-mails with S&T customer service followed. I even sent them a screenprint of the order confirmation I had received when renewing. Well they hadn't charged the credit card at the time, so the order was nonexistent. Probably some administrative oversight, I thought. The card is fine, I use it all the time but it's nowhere near the spending limit. CS suggested I place another renewal order, which I did, two weeks ago. Turns out that again the order didn't go through because the card wasn't charged. Is this just administrative incompetence or what the heck is going on at S&T ?? Guess I'll have to live without getting their magazine in the mail every month. If S&T did such a thing, about half the people who post regularly in this part of CN would be howling about it. For some reason S&T and the bank holding the credit card aren't communicating, is a more likely explanation. I had a problem ordering books from Barnes & Noble online a few years ago that was similar to this. B&N couldn't fix it. I talked to the credit card company (it was a new card) and was told they'd check into it. After a week with no news I replaced my order and everything was fine and dandy. Call the CS crew at the magazine. Assuming one of their CN customer service irregulars don't pop in here first. We would like to solve these problems, so the more communication we get the better. edwincjones, Why would we do that? We're more than happy to take your money, so this problem is particularly puzzling. They do all politely reply, but the problem doesn't get solved. I already pay a 63% premium over US subscribers and am not about to add the cost of intercontinental phone calls to that. I'm getting to the stage of accepting that it's over and thinking about looking for another magazine to subscribe to. Maybe after 20-something years it isn't bad to change.
