I have a shovel with, ummm, no shovel part. Wonder if that would work?

How about my Pet Rock? He died in the 80s, but I haven't noticed much difference.

Well, I'd take money to take it off the owner's hands.
I think $50 for pain and anguish ought to do it...

It's easy to knock stuff like this, but the unit may have some unexpected merits. I have an old Bresser 9-30 x 63 zoom which has all the usual faults when used throughout its zoom range, but has optics so good that it will show banding on Saturn when mounted and used at 30x.

"It's easy to knock stuff like this . . ."

It is much easier when you’ve had years at the optics shop counter and had to tell hundreds of people that the cost of even a MINOR repair will be more than their binos did new! Or, perhaps, tell them that the exit pupil at 144-power is less than HALF A MILLIMETER, which is usually followed by:

“Whats an ‘exit pupil.’”

I came by my curmudgeonosity honestly over a heartbreakingly long period.

Cheers,

BillC

I tried out one of these at Sharper Image-the worst,
most unusable binoculars I have ever tried.
Even worse than the $2 kid toy binoculars.

makes those $9.95 ruby coated binos look like quality

Add me to the list of those who has actually TRIED them-- just out of curiosity, mind!

They really are as bad as any words could possibly describe, and have NO MERITS, unexpected or otherwise.

I like to putter in the kitchen...
You could use the barrel of one of these to ground peanuts, couldn't you?

Oh, it gets even better...

Check out this eBay auction. They are even trying to sell the defective ones for too much...

Is this completely nutz, or what?

The Admin and Mods won't let me share my feelings about these . . . VENDORS, for whom I have other names. But I will have my book, eventually. And when I do, I will give new meaning to ripping a new one.

But they do differ in price. so, $99 and $399 ones are completely same in terms of quality?

There might be some differences, since the Chinese manufacturer does allow various options. But all the options in the world won't change the fundamental weakness of the design.

I believe these are better, optically, than the 20-144x70 zoom binos that started it all. A few drinks from the left side (Vodka) and magically they will self collimate...
