iEQ45 to G11 tripod

Im getting ready for a new G11-hd to be shipped.
This will be my movable set-up.My G11 is mountted on a pier
in a pod.I bought the G11-g2 with a tripod that i never used.But the price just made more sense to get the tripod.So its set for over a year.
I like the iEQ45 and use it with an AT6RC ,great setup but
like most wantted more apature,,,so found a deal on a C11.
So I went to my local steel scrapyard and rummaged in there aluminum area.I found 2 round 1/2" thick plates,just the right size 6" and 5 3/4" for less than $20..COOL..
So using a small drill press I drilled a 1/2" hole in the centers and tapped them...Then drilled and tapped the side mountting and mount attachement holes.So now I get to use that very nice losmandy tripod...Very stable indeed.

Good work, I had my 45 mounted to a Losmandy tripod tripod also. The Losmandy sure is a step up from the 45's stock tripod.

I might have to do this with my 45.

Wembley- How did you go about mounting your 45 to the Losmandy tripod?

The stock tripod is not bad,but no way near the G11 beast!
The losmandy tripod is such a nice stable thing,its great to be able to now use it..The stock tripod is ok,light 17lb 2",and folds together tight.But day and night difference.

I first thought about putting a 3/8" to 1/2" threadded rod about 10" long,through the G11 tripod. Putting a nut on the iEQ45 mount.And use washers on the tripod under the round pier pice where the legs go togeter,but this is better.It could be done where the center hole is in the mount U base.
Simple and no work needed.The white base of the ioptron mount is just big enpugh to fit on top of the G11 tripod (6")

I actually purchased a mini pier top plate and machined an aluminum adapter to fit in the tripod and to receive the mini pier plate. Turned out nicely, it cost more than $20 though!

I have since sold the mount but I still have the adapter.

Bob,

Wouldn't the '45 mount be more stable on the G11 tripod if it was mounted 180 deg (or 60 deg) from what you show. Then the counterweight would be positioned over the tripod leg.

It can be moved,some like to have it this way to use longer
bars and big counterweights.More space between counter weights and legs.The G11 tripod is so beefy ,dont think it matters much but good point.
