M42 Pic thru Image Intensifier - 0.5 Sec Exposure new

Snapped this pic over the weekend under heavily light polluted skies (Los Angeles). Scope is a 155mm f7 refractor. Intensifer is Gen 3 thin film housed in a Micro Monocular. Camera is a Panasonic G5 with 20mm f1.7 lens coupled to Micro eyepiece (afocal). Used a 12 nm H-alpha filter. Half second exposure.
Haven't gotten into image stacking - yet.

Here's the Horsehead under same conditions as M42, but with 2 sec exposure time.

How do they compare to the view to the eye. Guess your light pollution is similar to what I have in London.

when i did it it gets overcooked(exposed)

To the eye, M42 shows very similar nebulosity detail, many fine wisps, witih the 12nm filter. The central trapezium region shows the four resolved stars and is less bright than the pic shown above.
The HorseHead and Flame look about 30% as bright to the eye as in the pics.
At a dark sight, the HorseHead and Flame look about 80% as bright to the eye vs. these pics - although I'm sure at a dark site I would get much better pics. May try that in Feb.

your flame image has a lot of lovely hidden info
i did some processing on it - would you like to see?
horse had a bit to much noise need faster f num of more expose time
here is a shot of HH i took with BIPH - used on their web site

That's a very nice shot of the HH. Good contrast. What scope did you use and what were the sky conditions?
I'd like to see how your processing improved my Flame nebula pic.

f/4 ,10 inch ,several seconds
here is mild process flame
there is more you can do to surpress noise

my HH was in NYC area suburb sky was clear

however it how you use it not what your using
i recommend reading any ccd image processing books
like the zone method or ccd astronomy
im by no means an expert - i picked up stuff from others that do deep sky imaging and apply some of it to II
