The three named craters in this sketch show along the terminator. The largest crater at the top is Pythagoras, 130km in diameter with steep 5000m cliffs and a double central mountain (although only one showed at the time of the sketch). Oenopides is next with steep terraced cliffs, 68km at its widest point and suffers the same crushed walls as Pythagoras from the walled plain Babbage in the centre. Right at the bottom of the sketch is Markov the smallest crater at 41km in diameter and with 2400m cliffs.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I have to admit that up until recently I considered the moon just to be a pest for my DSO sketching but it really is a fascinating subject to learn about and explore. I'm enjoying every minute of lunar sketching and I'd recommend it to anyone!

Mike,
Terrific drawing! Pythagoras is on my favorites list--one of those big craters on the limb which affords an oblique view.
I believe you have joined Frank McCabe and Erika Rix as a master of the white on black media for lunar sketching.
Keep up the great work.
Forgive me for taking liberties with your drawing. I turned it to display the oblique view I mentioned above. Like it?

Mike,
A great looking lunar sketch. I can see how you applied the Conte' pastel, it has a fine look for showing the lunar regolith.
Excellent sketching.
