I have a C14 OTA with the two chrome carry handles attached to the rear cell and want to know if one can be removed without taking apart and removing the rear cell. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

They screw in from the inside there are reinforced areas they attach to.
You will need to take the scope apart to remove it.

One of the best things Celestron has ever done is put the handles on the rear cell.
Anyhow, if you want to remove them, prepare for a major diassembly job.

My C-11 has a carrying handle...I'm so glad it's there! I'm not sure why you would want to remove it, but I like mine! Good Luck either way Bill!!

Thanks for the replies. I had thought that they were attached from the inside of the rear cell. So I guess I'll leave it or use some bolt cutters to remove it.

You're not serious!
Don't you hang things from them? I have hooks on my Handsets and use the handles to hook them on the scope so they are always within easy reach.
I guess if you never intend to sell it, you can do what you please (heck even if you do intend to sell it, it's still your scope), but there is such utility in the handles that I think you will be making a big mistake to delete them, especially in such a butcher-like way.

I only want to remove one of them as it keeps hitting me in the head when I look into the eyepiece. I am using a UA Unistar deluxe altaz mount that attaches the C14 dovetail in the vertical. This setup places one handle directly over the diagonal and the other at the bottom. I have tried to angle the diagonal to about a 45 degree angle so I don't hit the handle so much with my head. Will keep trying this, but if it is still bothersome, will probably remove this top handle at some point. I can manage the OTA with only one handle and some careful lifting.

Hey Bob,
I'd be happy to trace the pattern and mail it to you. It really makes a big difference, hey btw are you still looking for the original C14 HD drive corrector ? If so I have one I'd be willing to sell. Took me a weekend to make with crude tools.
