very happy got clear skies tonight
the only problem was/is focusing with the DSLR is very painful. A whole bunch I did with the Pleadies and crab nebula are all out of focus
Tried an orange filter this time to see how it would work with contrast, It did appear to bring out more detail, see for yourself

Nice shots. Did you lock the mirror in the camera? Just turn on live view and let the camera focus on the moon. It is blurry because when the mirror moves it causes vibrations.

the p&s was at 1/800 sec and the dSLR was at 1/100 sec and 2sec delay. No i dindt lock it up. both cameras should not have the same issue.

It's probably because your shooting through the eyepiece. The focal plane is not flat and therefor only part of the image will ever be in focus. I'm not sure theres anything you can do about it other than switch to prime focus (no eyepiece) You got some pretty nice shots though.

that makes sense, was wondering about that. in the past I noticed one had to adjust focus on dif parts of the Moon. thought maybe the Moon was too close and made for some small adjustments for side and front.
thanks!

Hey Neil,
Good pics. Nice colors in the Jupiter pic. I am always interested in what fellow Dob owners can do. I recently modified my xt8 to do Newtonian focus (formerly known as Prime focus, see Alex's thread on prime focus). By doing so I was able to eliminate the aberrations caused by the eyepiece. I still do planetary with eyepiece projection because Newtonian focus is at a fixed lower magnification (45x) for my scope and camera.

Instead of starting a new thread i will just continue with the next days shoot.
My poor digits, the temp dropped fast from comfy to painful.
With the prospect of clouds moving in i started to poke my head out now and then. Starting at 7:50pm i worked on Jupiter, still frames, no Moon in sight, still couldnt get more detail then i have already posted, will work on them tomorrow even though quick look does not look promising.
By the time i was done 75 frames later the moon was present just over the trees, 8:15, very orange, grabbed some shots then went in to wait till 10:30 for it to be clearer.
So this is the day after full Moon 8:15pm
