I think the 114 is early 60's not early 50's as well.

Wouldn't an early 50's have metal knobs in Alt. Az. and more than likely the focus knob would be metal. Finally wouldn't the objective dia. be called out as a 62mm?

Yep, in the southwest, there's all kinds of critters - Scorpions, Tarantulas, rattle snakes, pack rats and other reptiles and animals that can hurt you or ruin your property if you let them! But for the most part, leave them alone and they leave you alone. Build or buy a home in the desert and those kind of things are common and expected.
