It's not just against the rules here; it's against U.S. and international law. You can, in theory, be imprisoned for things like that. There have been a number of very well publicized recent cases of people being hit with preposterous fines, to the tune of millions of dollars. Not that I agree with those fines, mind you ... but that's a whole different matter.
