My new scope that I got for Christmas
Thanks for that pic...I now have a Valentines Day gift for the wife! Perfect rendering of us, my brown hair, her blonde, of course when we were much younger...the scope even looks like the TV Genesis I used to show her her first astronomical sights. Brings back fond memories...hopefully it will for her too! Thanks for posting!
That was a gift from my mother in law. When I opened it my wife was gushing all over it. There were many times when I was in the back yard with my scope and I would call my wife out to look at something through my scope kinda like the Precious Moment figurine. It would make a great Valentines gift for your wife and I'm happy that my posting inspired you!

I have a great pic also of my wife and I, her holding my TEC-140. I won't give a copy of the pic to her though. She's still *BLEEP* at me for selling the TEC!!

Pic of my new Orion Astro 90mm. The lil' guy is trying out my finder scope.... don't think the living room ceiling has a lot to offer.
I've been trying to get oriented with the mount.

That picture of your son takes me back to when I was a 10 year old begging my mom and dad for a telescope.

An image of my Frankentron or Unimund, or simply Unitron/Edmund hybrid, call it what you will.
Basically it is an Edmund 76 mm f/11 doublet achromat mounted in a modified (cut-down) Unitron tube assembly with modified Unitron objective cell and shortened tube (with baffles repositioned). Mounted on the Unitron #142 mount.
The original f/16 Unitron objective was scratched and in poor shape (purchased this telescope used). I totally refurbished and went with the shorter f/ratio objective which is quite good. In my mind the 3" f/11 is at least as well corrected as the longer 3" f/16 and I have extensively observed with both.

Steve,
Your new Orion 90 is really pretty and I love that your young one is interested.
And Barry, your refurbishing job is beautiful. Nothing like some pretty white refractors. Thanks for the pictures.
Best, Linda B.

Actually on the Edmund/Unitron hybrid the color is Ivory (by Krylon). Ivory adds a richness and depth to the telescope that white just cannot do.

This has been my project scope for the past few months. The objective is a 1946 Brandon 3" f15.3 on an Edmund mount. The focuser is a custome brass focuser from Crawford Machine and the tripod is a Dietzen.

Thanks Steve, the Traveler looks kinda tiny sitting up there doesn't it? I realized after I mounted it that I couldn't reach it very easily (I am 6' 2") so I put back the AP 80mm guide scope instead and put the Traveler on its own mount.

Hi Linda, This scope is from 1990 I think and was made by Vixen for Orion. Still in mint condition. You can see more photos in the thread here in the classic telescopes forum.
