I love to see every ones pics of their family heirlooms. I would love to see some pictures of your most chopped up ugly refractors. Not in pieces but functioning loved and working telescopes. No nice pictures allowed.

The most creative scope I have seen is this 4 inch F/5 built by Father Joseph Babendrier in Narobi, Kenya.

Ugliest telescopes? Wrong forum. You're looking for "Reflectors" next door.

Yeah Id agree with that much as I live my reflector. But you know what's butt-ugly? I mean this'd be the girl who'd be 40 and still not kissed - my Televue Ranger. It's great to look through but it hasn't a gram of sex appeal I mean its positively... I don't know ... Dorky! It needs a sign taped to its back that sais "kick me". But - I love it. It's so darned sharp in focus I can forgive its ugliness for its wonderful IQ.

It's beautiful in it's own way and it certainly challenges me and hopefully everyone else to realize how spoiled we are.. Father Joe taught me something.

I will get flamed for this.. Most Dobs are not too pretty. The truss ones do look ok.. But... Coulter Odyssey? Ugly.. Makes a shipping crate look ravishing.

Gotta admit, I love my dob, but it's just a butt ugly cow looks wise to the 102XLT (which is a nice looking scope).

Heck, I even find "pretty" reflectors to be crude, ungainly and, dare I say, ugly.

Imagine my aesthetic reaction to less comely boxes-with-poles-stuck-on-them reflectors.
And yes, I did learn something invaluable from Father Joe - no matter how hard up you are, there's no reason to settle for a reflector. Refractors are within reach of us all.

Remember the old adage that says one person's eye for beauty can be anothers eyesore.
I'd much rather look through a telescope that at one.

Great analogy!
I had one of those butt ugly Coulters but it had a great mirror. While low on the beauty scale it was high on the fun scale.

Truss dobs have a certain elegance to them - sort of an engineering appreciation aspect I suppose.
Sonotube based dobs, however, are indeed - very ugly.
