I am hoping to find a bit of info on a set of binocs i have found.
They are "Selby" 10x50 and inscribed with
SELBY 10x50 coated optics, triple tested, 288ft at 1000 yds No. 60854. They are made in Japan and come with a light tan leather hardcase and strap.
From a quick test look they seem to be well coated and sharp.
Thanks for looking.
Matt

Could you possibly mean Selsi?
The only reference I could find to "Selby" on the Internet was the post you just made. Also, I think you mean 1,000 yards, not "100."
Cheers,

Hi Bill, definitely SELBY. I have only found one reference which was an auction listing for a pair with case in 2009.
Thanks, Mat

Well, in that case, you take the lead and let us know what you find--and where you found it. It's possibly from some mom and pop sporting goods or hardware store. Many such stores inport their own "brand."
Cheers,
BillC

Do they say "Made in Occupied Japan"? Also, "Triple Tested" sounds Bushnellesque.

Is there a J-e and/or J-b number stamped between the objectives?

I wish you good luck with that Selby 10x50,Kunama.
For some reason, every Japanese Porro I've ever seen stamped with the words "triple tested" have been of poorer quality that the ones that weren't.

Without a photo they appear to be your basic post war Japanese 50's-80's porro bino. Bk-7 prisms with early fully coated lens. 5.5 degree FOV with limited eye relief. They are non waterproof. Post war Japan was the mass market producer of binos like yours prior to China taking over a decade or two ago. The post war Japanese binos had good build and Q. and A. standards. There were literally many hundreds of different brand names. Current modern coatings do give improved light transmission and contrast. If well collimated and clean inside they will give a usable image.

Thank you all for the contributions, the eye relief is actually quite good, possibly around 20mm.
I will try them out when the skies clear.
