I don't know TEC-7 Mak VS AP, Intes or Mirage7?
But it is very expensive scope.

The quality is AP and APM equivalent. Worth every penny.

The Santel is very comparable in build/optical quality, and even design/features.

So is my STF-Mirage. The front and rear cells are machined, so collimation stays spot on - and the glass is wonderful.
I talked to Yuri a couple of years ago and he mentioned that he wanted to build some more Maks and thought 7 inches would be a good size. His products are excellent and I think they will be very popular.
Cheers,
Ron

Nice specs, only the price is somewhat less nice. For that money you could buy the new APM 152 APO doublet; tough choice.

Is it worth $3000 more than a Synta 180 Mak?

That is a personal choice. Like is a Mercedes Benz worth $40,000 more than a Kia Optima?
If I had the choice between the Synta Mak and a TEC, I would buy the TEC--as long as I could afford it. The TEC would be better in every possible way. How much better? That may depend on how you use the scope and how lucky you were in the Synta lottery.

You'll lose money on the Synta and probably make some on the TEC if you ever sell them.
Performance-wise? Smooth 0.02 RMS optics will show the difference at the eyepiece but the law of diminishing returns applies as usual.

Unfortunately no, only professional/university Maksutovs now. I was fortunate to purchase one of the last 228 Rumaks about 5 yrs ago. Awesome telescope and built solid.

Synta lottery is a good expression. Last year i purchased a new SW 180 Pro Mak. It had the worst star test and performance of any scope i have owned. Not all are like that, but this one got through. So the TEC is a safe bet imo.

I'd say that depends on what the optics in your Mewlon are like and/or what you seek to gain in a change of scopes. If optical quality can be considered relatively equal, the most obvious gain will be a considerably wider diffraction limited field. The most likely tradeoff to obtain that is the step down in aperture and possibly a bit more difficulty in cooldown.

If I already had the Mewlon 210, not sure I would have gone for the TEC 180 and lose 30mm of aperture. Do you like the views through your Mewlon?

Hi guys. Yes I do love my Mewlon, as my review clearly demonstrates and decided in the end that no 180 mak, no matter how good the optics are, could replace it. It was also bit too expensive when you have to pay 25% import duties to get one into the UK.
At the same time I got to use a second hand Orion OMC200 F20 mak and was amazed at its quality on Jupiter. This cost less than 30% of the cost of the new Tec. I will be reviewing this scope over the next couple of months but my first impressions are that I might have found the holy grail of portable planetary scopes.
So many decisions to make in one weekend!
