I think the flashpoint cases are worth a try. For half the price. I am generally very careful with what I have and the small orion case has held up well for my use. Thanks again demiles.

I think they are definitely worth a look.....I am looking for a case to store binoviewers & related "stuff" and don't really need the super protection of the "Pelican" case.......the "flashpoint" case will almost be over-kill for my needs and a great price.

Thanks for the link. These will probably more than adequate for my situation, and since I'm looking to have multiple smaller cases for specific uses, these will be much easier on the wallet!

The 1600 is huge, but it holds a lot and is great protection. I added a couple of eyepieces and had to jump up from a 1550. I prefer to have my eyepieces laying flat hence the need for a large case.

ignorant question; once you pluck out the foam pieces, can you put them back in case you want to 'remodel'? thanks Bob

You could reuse the foam and reorganize, but it would require a little spray glue of some kind. When the foam is plucked it's plucked. I have 21 Pelican cases of all sizes and I color coordinate to come extent. Yellow for eyepieces, tan for ADM accessories, green for my tents, orange for tools, but mostly black because most large cases are only available in black. Color cases make things a little easier to find in the dark. I also use Pelican cases for my hand guns, the 1170 is a perfect fit for most.

Paul, nicely organized case! I have my eyepieces in a 1600 case too. Do you go down to the second level of foam when you pluck? I organize them vertically to fit more into the case. I'm wondering I there's another case that you can lay the eyepieces flat, but its not as deep as the 1600.

The 1600 has two layers of pick-n-pluck foam, plus a thinner solid bottom layer, so what I've done is switch out the layers. I put the old picked-out layer on the bottom, the thinner solid layer in the middle which will now act as a good base, and the "non-picked" layer on top. This will probably only work if you lay down the eyepieces in the case like I do, but it does give you at least one more re-organization before needing replacement foam.

Well after some thought I bought a Flashpoint 1550 from Adorama for $59.95 with free shipping. I have a small Orion eyepiece case now and it has held up well. I am pretty easy on my equipment so I think this will work fine and half the price.
I appreciate all the advice. I will be sure to post a picture and thoughts of the cases.

As you can see from the picture above plenty of room for more eyepieces.

No problem. I am very happy with it. While I don't have a Pelican to compare it too, I can't imagine its double the quality for my needs. I am just looking for storage and carrying eyepieces to my club site.
