I heard through a good source that Sky-Watcher is about to release a new Triplet/Quadret refactor for more budget minded astronomer to compete against the like of Meade/ES and others manufacturer that are in that category.
I don't have much details at this point. It would included a field flattener and would be dedicated. The 80mm would have an F ratio in the neighborhood of F5. Price range is rumor to be ~1200 for the 80mm.
It should be release somewhere around March/April.

Apparently it will be an Esprit 80ED. Considered myself corrected.

FogBound, I think you are sort of correct, there is a 'new Coming Soon' series. Looking at the website, they seem to have two different ~f/5 series scopes going. The Espirit Quintet series (e.g. Espirit 100 ED Apo Quintet at f/5), then also an ED Triplet series (e.g Espirit 100 ED Apo Triplet at f/5.5). Or is the website just goofed up a little?
Cheers, Fox

These new triplet/field flattner APO refractors are getting confusing. I just noticed that the SkyWatcher Quantum:
http://www.celestron.com/astronomy/sky-watcher-quantum-100-ed-apo-triplet.html
uses s-fpl51 ED glass and the Esprit uses fpl-53 ED glass, but both seem to cost the same, though I did not look to closely at differences in focuser and tube material.
Now the best deal in these type refractors seems to be the Willian Optics GTF series.

However, these offerings are f/6.9 as opposed to the f/5 Esprit and Quantum designs.

Guys my source is very good. I got the first Goto Dobs by Sky-watcher in Canada when it came out and I knew months in advance. If he is telling me a new refractor is coming out then it is.

So which is it? Doublet or triplet? Fpl53 or fpl51? The new SW scopes are lovely, but they are beginning to get very expensive and bumping up against the bottom end of the premium brands. I'd like to see them offer a reasonably priced 140mm and 160mm fpl53 doublet for the rest of us. But what do I know...

Hope SW solved the collimation problems that are affecting the present 100ED version since without these the telescope would be great!!!

OK Guys. I got the official price given to me 999$ flattener build-in. That's insane.

The poor man's FSQ-85. If it can be used visually with the build-in flattener (it is removable), then it'll be the most ultimate wide-field visual scope!
A 30mm 82° class eyepiece would give over 6° true field.
