Does anyone have a schematic with the dimensions of Losmandy plates? Specifically, the depth/thickness of the V or actual dovetail. Thanks.

OK - I posted too quick and found my answer in another thread (0.25"). But now the question is: The Celestron CGEM DX saddle is 0.375 (3/8") deep - is it normal to have a gap betweent the bottom of the plate and the saddle?

I have a Farpoint dovetail and there is a gap between that and both CGE and CGE Pro mounts. Jack

'Normal' i don't know but i have a Losmandy D for C9.25 that I don't like much (because of this gap) but there is nothing else to do. I tried the orange dovetail from celestron, but it's like an inch too short. Apparently the new C9.25 OTA have been shortened and the orange dovetails only fits these new. It's not clearly stated in the specifications so if it's your case, beware.
About the cgem saddle, i assume is the same as the dx. But i don't get the point of them having a variable width. The width can varry but not enough to accept a narrow vixen style dovetail. So i assume it's only a system to clamp the dovetail and not to adapt to different width. Whatever, it's extremely difficult to install the c925 with the losmandy dovetail. You have to apply enough force so that the entire mount is shaking. Impossible to install without light, but at least, once installed, the OTA is secured.
With the other OTA from celestron, c8, c11, that i assume havn't change in lenght, you'd be better with a new orange dovetail, IMO.

A Losmandy D dovetail plate from Losmandy, ADM, Casady, or whoever isn't going to change the fact that there will be a gap when using a CGEM saddle. The orange extruded Celestron dovetails fit the best in these saddles.
That said there isn't a problem with the gap, the saddle holds any of these dovetails just fine. If you want a really nice precision setup replace the CGEM OEM saddle with an ADM or similar model and use a good D plate.
Moving side plate or "tip in" saddles like the CGEM OEM, Casady, and the ADM make "loading" a scope very simple. With these saddles you don't need to slide the dovetail plate in from the end. Instead you open the saddle a bit wider and you lay the dovetail plate in place and tip it in (one edge seated and then laying it flat and closing the other side of the saddle against it). These saddles tend to have wide jaws (often the full length of the saddle so they grip and hold very well) but dovetail plates don't always sit flat against the bottom of the saddle (hence some have the gap).
End loading saddles like the Losmandy tend to fit the plate differently (no gap) but don't have jaws as wide and are a bit more difficult to load with a heavy scope.

Thanks for the replies. mclewis - do you have a link to the ADM replacement saddle? The CGEM DX is not flat - it instead is round on the underside and attached to the mount with three screws.

This saddle will handle both D and V type dovetail bar/plates.
